          Disposal15
Heavy metal-containing solutions and solids: container E. Stir Raney nickel (also: Urushibara nickel) in the form of an aqueous suspension into hydrochloric acid (Cat. No. 100312) until dissolved (container E). Neither Raney nickel itself nor any filter residues should be allowed to dry out, otherwise they will spontaneously ignite in air. In this context, heavy metal means any compound of antimony, arsenic, cadmium, chromium(VI), copper, lead, nickel and tin, as well as these subtances in metallic form, if they are classified as hazardous (acc. to AbfallverzeichnisV - Waste Catalogue Ordinance, Appendix 3). Other heavy metals should be collected separately.

Accreditation: This volumetric solution is certified according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany is accredited as calibration laboratory D-K-15185-01-00 for amount-of-substance concentrations in volumetric solutions according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 by DAkkS (Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle). The accreditation certificate can be found at www.sigmaaldrich.com/ISO17025.
The concentration is determined by volumetric titration and refers to 20°C.
The certified value of this volumetric solution was determined by titration with iodine standard solution (article number 1.09099) standardized by sodium thiosulfate solution (article number 1.09147) against volumetric standard potassium iodate (article number 1.02404). The sodium arsenite standard solution is standardized and traceable to a primary standard from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, USA (NIST SRM 136 potassium dichromate) by means of volumetric standard potassium iodate (Art. 1.02404). This volumetric standard is certified by the accredited calibration laboratory of KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany according to DIN EN ISO 17025. The uncertainty is expressed as expanded measurement uncertainty with a coverage factor k=2 covering a confidence level of 95%. All measurements are carried out in the calibration laboratory D-K-15185-01-00 of KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.
Note: The titer is a correction factor to correct for variations of the volumetric solution, the titration equipment, the temperature and other laboratory conditions. For correct titration results it is recommended to determine a titer with the laboratory specific equipment and under laboratory specific conditions directly after opening a new bottle and at regular time intervals.
