      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummarySomatostatin acts at many sites to inhibit the release of many hormones and other secretory proteins. The biological effects of somatostatin are probably mediated by a family of G protein-coupled receptors that are expressed in a tissue-specific manner. The encoded protein is a member of the superfamily of somatostatin receptors having seven transmembrane segments, and is expressed in highest levels in jejunum and stomach.

      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P30872 # Receptor for somatostatin with higher affinity for somatostatin-14 than -28. This receptor is coupled via pertussis toxin sensitive G proteins to inhibition of adenylyl cyclase. In addition it stimulates phosphotyrosine phosphatase and Na(+)/H(+) exchanger via pertussis toxin insensitive G proteins.
SIZE: 391 amino acids; 42686 Da
      SUBUNIT: Interacts with SKB1.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Fetal kidney, fetal liver, and adult pancreas, brain, lung, jejunum and stomach.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P30872 ## Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family.
