      Background InformationRXRG, Retinoid X receptor γ (RXRG or RXR gamma) is a nuclear receptor that mediates the biological effects of retinoids by their involvement in retinoic acid-mediated gene activation. RXRs have 3 isoforms: RXRα, RXRβ, and RXRγ. RXRα and RXRβ are widely expressed in the developing embryo and adult, while RXRγ is expressed in the developing pituitary gland, liver, lung, kidney, and heart. RXR's as a whole exert their action by binding, as homodimers or heterodimers, to specific sequences in the promoters of target genes and regulate their transcription. Diseases assoicated with RXRG are diabetic nephripathy and pituitary adenomas.
