      • ERp44
      • Thioredoxin domain-containing protein 4
Background InformationEndoplasmic reticulum resident protein 44 (ERp44) also known as thioredoxin domain-containing protein 4 (TXNDC4) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ERP44 gene. ERp44 is a member of the protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) family and is induced during ER stress and abundantly expressed in secretory tissue cells. Disulfide bond formation occurs in the ER and is an essential step in the structural maturation of secretory and membrane proteins. Members of the Ero1 family transfer oxidative equivalents to cargo proteins via PDI and other ER oxidoreductases.
