DescriptionImmunoaffinity purified goat polyclonal antibody. Recognizes the ~140 kDa RENT1 protein.
BackgroundEukaryotes have the ability to recognize and degrade transcripts that harbor premature signals for translational termination. Nonsense and frameshift mutations that result in these premature termination codons play a role in many genetic diseases and some cancers. Nonsense-mediated nRNA decay (NMD) is mediated by several factors including rent1/hUpf1, rent2/hUpf2, and hUpf3. When assembled, these proteins form the surveillence complex. Disruption of the mouse Rent1 gene has been reported to completely disrupt NMD and result in embryos that re-absorb shortly after implantation.
