      SourceE.coli
      Specific ActivityThe ED50 was determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by KGF-responsive BaF3 cells is <= 10 ng/mL, corresponding to a specific activity of >= 1 x 105 units/mg.
      Entrez Gene Number
      Entrez Gene SummaryThe protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. This protein is a potent epithelial cell-specific growth factor, whose mitogenic activity is predominantly exhibited in keratinocytes but not in fibroblasts and endothelial cells. Studies of mouse and rat homologs of this gene implicated roles in morphogenesis of epithelium, reepithelialization of wounds, hair development and early lung organogenesis.

      Storage and Shipping Information
      Storage ConditionsThe lyophilized powder, though stable for a few weeks at room temperature, is best stored at -20°C. After a quick spin, reconstitute in PBS to a concentration of 0.5-1.0 mg/mL. This solution can be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at 4°C for 1 week or -20°C for future use. Reconstituted KGF should be stored in undiluted aliquots at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
