      DescriptionInterleukin-2 Protein, Recombinant human
OverviewInterleukin-2 (IL-2) is a potent lymphoid cell growth factor which exerts its biological activity primarily on T cells. Human IL-2 is a 15-16 kDa protein containing 159 amino acid residues. This preparation contains both monomeric and dimeric forms of IL-2.

      Applications
ApplicationThe recombinant human Interleukin-2 protein (or IL-2 protein) is a potent lymphoid cell growth factor which exerts its biological activity primarily on T cells.
      Key Applications
      • Cell Culture
Application NotesFor most in vitro applications, IL-2 exerts its biological activity in the concentration range of 0.1 to 1.0 ng/mL. Responding cells are (partial list): T-cells, NK cells, LAK cells.
      Biological Information
PurityGreater than 97% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analysis.
Specific ActivityGreater than 98% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analysis. Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per μg of IL-2 (1EU/μg).
      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThe protein encoded by this gene is a secreted cytokine that is important for the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes. The receptor of this cytokine is a heterotrimeric protein complex whose gamma chain is also shared by interleukin 4 (IL4) and interleukin 7 (IL7). The expression of this gene in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, which represents an unusual regulatory mode for controlling the precise expression of a single gene. The targeted disruption of a similar gene in mice leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, which suggests an essential role of this gene in the immune response to antigenic stimuli.

      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P60568 # Produced by T-cells in response to antigenic or mitogenic stimulation, this protein is required for T-cell proliferation and other activities crucial to regulation of the immune response. Can stimulate B-cells, monocytes, lymphokine- activated killer cells, natural killer cells, and glioma cells.
SIZE: 153 amino acids; 17628 Da
      SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted.
      DISEASE:SwissProt: P60568 # A chromosomal aberration involving IL2 is found in a form of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). Translocation t(4;16)(q26;p13) with involves TNFRSF17.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P60568 ## Belongs to the IL-2 family.

      Storage and Shipping Information
Storage ConditionsThe lyophilized IL-2, though stable at room temperature, is best stored at-20°C. After a quick spin reconstitute in 100mM acetic acid to a concentration of 0.1-1 mg/mL. This solution can be diluted into other buffered solutions or stored. Reconstituted IL-2 should be stored in undiluted aliquots at -20°C for up to six months. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
