Revision05-June-2008 RFH
DescriptionThe eight cyclin-dependent protein kinases (Cdks) that have been identified to date play an essential role in the regulation of the cell cycle. Each Cdk is thought to be regulated by its transient association with one or more members of the cyclin family. These Cdk/cyclin complexes reportedly regulate each step of the cell cycle. For example, the G1/S transition is regulated by Cdk2/cyclin E, Cdk3/unknown cyclin, Cdk4/cyclin D1-3, Cdk6/cyclin D1, and Cdk8/cyclin C. The frequent deregulation of Cdks and their regulators in cancer has stimulated the search for potent and selective inhibitors of Cdks for both research and therapeutic use. Calbiochem® brand offers a set of two such inhibitors and a negative control compound. All three compounds are cell-permeable and act by competitively binding to the ATP binding site of the kinases.
