Sharing our experience

EMD is not only a provider of high quality chemical products; but we can also benefit our customers by providing services that offer them a chance to share in our years of experience. This not only includes supporting our own products but also providing advice to keep customers up to date with the latest technical and commercial developments in the industry, guiding them through legal stipulations and regulations or training their staff for modern techniques and qualifications.

Centers of excellence

To help in these aims and make biopharmaceutical processes both simpler and safer, EMD now operates three global ‘centers of excellence’, with a total of three biochromatography labs – in Darmstadt/Germany, in Gibbstown/USA and the third in Taipei (ATTC) – as well as a silica lab, also in Darmstadt. The three Global Applied Technology centers provide expert advice and practical support on a wide range of key topics. Laboratory work at these centers aims at developing application services for customers, devising downstream processing strategies, and performing scale-up of protein purification steps as well as large-scale column packing/testing. Other efforts focus on troubleshooting in process chromatography.

All this helps our customers stay at the forefront of technology and ahead in their own markets. With us, customers quickly find solutions to their enquiries and have access to material samples. Our Application Service assists them in method development using EMD’s process separation products.

EMD Training: Dialog, Experience and Education

In its service and training provisions EMD adheres to three key principles: Dialog, Experience and Education. All our services are based on dialog with the customer, working closely together and exchanging information to ensure customers get the solutions they need. They also give customers a chance to tap into EMD's extensive experience, while our training programs help customers enhance employee education and gain qualifications that can boost business. Our new workshops are designed for process development scientists, chemical and biochemical engineers, R&D scientists, downstream process managers, and people interested in a deeper understanding of chromatographic purification processes.

1. Dialog Biopharm

By and large, the Dialog course is a round-table event consisting of peer discussion. It comprises theoretical presentations and discussions with opinion leaders, EMD specialists and multiple customers.

2. Experience Biopharm

An Experience course includes lectures as well as hands-on practical sessions. This knowledge is needed to develop the right industrial purification strategy. Strategic thinking, optimal choice and development of chromatographic techniques secure a highly productive and economical process. Theoretical and practical aspects covering these topics are discussed in this course.

3. Education Biopharm

The Education course provides theoretical training for industry newcomers and covers upstream, downstream, formulation and regulatory affairs.
