Recombinant, full-length human Pim2 fused at the N-terminus to GST and expressed in S. frugiperda insect cells. Pim kinases, Pim1, Pim2 and Pim3, are serine/threonine kinases encoded by protooncogenes. The Pim kinases have been identified as mediators of cytokine-dependent survival signals. Little is known about putative substrates for Pim2 phosphorylation, but recent studies have shown that Pim2 can phosphorylate the pro-apoptotic protein, Bad, on Ser112. This phosphorylation may account, in part, for Pim2-dependent reversal of Bad-induced cell death.
