Drying
Drying of gases, liquids, and solids - the removal of water - is one of the basic and most frequently used techniques in chemical laboratories, in pilot plants and in production. While chemically bound water of crystallization can mostly be removed by heating in a drying cabinet, non-chemically bound water is removed by adding (directly or indirectly) liquid-binding substances. To remove water or other liquids at room temperature or temperatures slightly above, "drying agents" or "desiccants" are normally used.
