Chromolith® NH2 HPLC columns
Chromolith® NH2 HPLC columns are made of highly porous monolithic rods of silica with a revolutionary bimodal pore structure. Therefore high separation efficiencies are reached under low back-pressures. Chromolith® NH2 HPLC column have long lifetimes within a pH range of 2.5 to 7.5, high matrix tolerance and speed of analysis.
Aminopropyl-modified Chromolith® columns in terms of polarity lie between bare silica (normal-phase chromatography) and reversed-phase silica (reversed-phase chromatography). They can also already be used as an ion exchanger. In acidic solutions the NH2 groups are protonated (-NH3 +X–) and therefore display the characteristics of a weak anion exchanger. Medium polar Chromolith® NH2 HPLC column possess hydrophilic as well as hydrophobic properties and can be used under both reversed-phase and normal-phase conditions. Retention, however, is weaker than on silica and on RP supports.
The major application area for amino phases is the separation of carbohydrates (mono- and disaccharides such as fructose, glucose, sucrose, maltose, and lactose), anions, and organic acids. These columns may be used for normal-phase chromatography, reversed-phase chromatography, and weak anion exchange separations.
