Background InformationMaintenance of physiological balance in the body is attributed in part to normal kidney function. Altered kidney function due to injury, drug toxicity or kidney failure may be life threatening. Toxicity is the leading cause of drug failure, so research is expanding in search of more sensitive, rapid methods to determine organ-specific damage as quickly as possible. Traditionally, blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine tests have been used to determine drug-induced damage to the kidney. These tests only detect kidney damage after it begins and do not allow for the elucidation of where in the kidney the damage has occurred. Specificity and earlier detection of kidney injury is vital, and this area of research is expanding in search of more sensitive, rapid methods for determining the specific area of damage in kidney.

• These assays require 25 µL diluted urine sample per well, sample dilution recommendations is 1:500 dilution in kit Assay Buffer
