      Key Specifications Table

      Key ApplicationsSpeciesPurity
CULT Rat Greater than 98% by SDS-PAGE analysis and HPLC analysis. Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per mg (1EU/μg) of rat IL-6.
      Catalogue NumberIL025
      Brand Family Chemicon®
      Trade Name
      • Chemicon
      DescriptionInterleukin-6 Protein, Recombinant rat
OverviewInterleukin-6 (IL-6) is a potent lymphoid cell growth factor that stimulates the growth and survivability of certain B cells and T cells. Rat IL-6 is a 21.7 kDa protein containing 187 amino acid residues.
      Alternate Names
      • IL-6
      Product Information
PresentationSterile filtered and lyophilized. Contains no preservative.
ApplicationThe recombinant rat Interleukin-6 protein (or IL-6 protein) is a potent lymphoid cell growth factor which affects B-lymphocytes, T-lymphocytes & hybridoma cells.
      Key Applications
      • Cell Culture
Application NotesFor most in vitro applications, IL-6 exerts its biological activity in the concentration range of 0.01 to 1.0 ng/mL.
      Biological Information
PurityGreater than 98% by SDS-PAGE analysis and HPLC analysis. Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per mg (1EU/μg) of rat IL-6.
Specific ActivityChemicon's rat IL-6 is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED(50) as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of IL-6 dependent mouse 7TD1 cells is <= 0.01 ng/mL, corresponding to a specific activity of >= 1 x 10(E8) units/mg.
      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P05231 # IL-6 is a cytokine with a wide variety of biological functions: it plays an essential role in the final differentiation of B-cells into Ig-secreting cells, it induces myeloma and plasmacytoma growth, it induces nerve cells differentiation, in hepatocytes it induces acute phase reactants.
SIZE: 212 amino acids; 23718 Da
      PTM: N- and O-glycosylated.
DISEASE: SwissProt: P05231 # Genetic variations in IL6 are associated with susceptibility to systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis [MIM:604302]. Systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is juvenile chronic arthritis associated with severe, debilitating, extraarticular features, and occasionally fatal complications. Despite medical treatment, many children still experience early joint destruction, necessitating surgical replacement. & At least 1 polymorphism in the IL6 gene renders HIV- infected men susceptible to Kaposi sarcoma [MIM:148000]. Kaposi sarcoma is a sarcoma of spindle cells mixed with angiomatous tissue. A relatively rare malignant skin tumor that results in multifocal purplish coloured papules or plaques that eventually form nodules. Most commonly seen in patients who suffer from AIDS.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P05231 ## Belongs to the IL-6 superfamily.

      • Unless otherwise stated in our catalog or other company documentation accompanying the product(s), our products are intended for research use only and are not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.
      Storage and Shipping Information
Storage ConditionsThe lyophilized powder, though stable at room temperature, is best stored desiccated -20°C. After a quick spin reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1 mg/mL to 1.0 mg/mL. This solution can be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at 4°C for one week or at -20°C for future use. Maintain reconstituted IL-6 in undiluted aliquots at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
