      Product Information
PresentationMonoclonal mouse antibody supplied in liquid format as tissue culture supernatant, diluted in PBS, pH 7.2 with stabilizers, 0.2% Tween 20, and 0.1% ProClin 300 as a preservative.
ApplicationThis IHC Select Anti-Neuron-Specific Enolase Antibody, prediluted, clone BBS/NC/VI-H14 is validated for use in IH(P) for the detection of Neuron-Specific Enolase.
      Key Applications
      • Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin)
Application NotesAntibody is prediluted and ready to use for Immunohistochemistry of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues.

Pretreatment: Heat Induced Epitope Retrieval (HIER). Recommend Citrate Buffer, pH 6.0 (Cat. No. 21545). No signal was detected without Epitope retrieval.

Incubation: 10 minutes with IHC Select® Detection Kits.

NSE has been prediluted for use as the primary antibody with Chemicon's IHC Select® Detection Kits and Protocols (Catalog Nos. DAB050, DET-HP1000, APR050, and DET-APR1000), but other supplier's IHC detection systems may be used. For optimized protocol details, visit www.chemicon.com and select the protocols link under Cat. Biological Information
ImmunogenGamma-gamma enolase purified from human brain
SpecificityReacts with human gamma-gamma enolase (Mr 46000). This antibody does not cross react with alpha or beta subunits of NSE.

      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThis gene encodes one of the three enolase isoenzymes found in mammals. This isoenzyme, a homodimer, is found in mature neurons and cells of neuronal origin. A switch from alpha enolase to gamma enolase occurs in neural tissue during development in rats and primates.
      Gene Symbol
      • ENO2
      • NSE
      • Gamma-enolase
      • EC
      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P09104 # Has neurotrophic and neuroprotective properties on a broad spectrum of central nervous system (CNS) neurons. Binds, in a calcium-dependent manner, to cultured neocortical neurons and promotes cell survival (By similarity).
COFACTOR: Magnesium. Required for catalysis and for stabilizing the dimer.
SIZE: 434 amino acids; 47269 Da
SUBUNIT: Mammalian enolase is composed of 3 isozyme subunits, alpha, beta and gamma, which can form homodimers or heterodimers which are cell-type and development-specific.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm (By similarity). Cell membrane (By similarity). Note=Can translocate to the plasma membrane in either the homodimeric (alpha/alpha) or heterodimeric (alpha/gamma) form (By similarity).
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: The alpha/alpha homodimer is expressed in embryo and in most adult tissues. The alpha/beta heterodimer and the beta/beta homodimer are found in striated muscle, and the alpha/gamma heterodimer and the gamma/gamma homodimer in neurons.DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: During ontogenesis, there is a transition from the alpha/alpha homodimer to the alpha/beta heterodimer in striated muscle cells, and to the alpha/gamma heterodimer in nerve cells.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P09104 ## Belongs to the enolase family.
