          OverviewNucleoside antibiotic that specifically inhibits protein synthesis in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Suitable for selection of cells carrying plasmids conferring blasticidin resistance. Blasticidin resistance is conferred by the blasticidin S deaminase gene (bsr) that converts blastisidin S to a nontoxic deaminohydroxy derivative.
