      Background InformationTranscription Termination Factor 1 (TTF1) is a multifunctional nucleolar protein that terminates ribosomal gene transcription, mediates replication fork arrest and regulates RNA polymerase I transcription on chromatin in the nucleus. TTF1 also regulates rDNA activation and silencing of rDNA transcription. TTF1 is a multimeric complex present in the nucleolus and found in nearly all cells. TTF1 thus plays a role in chromatin remodeling, gene expression, and transcription function. TTF1 is also a cancer marker for many cancers including lung, thyroid and head and neck cancers.
