      Background InformationStabilin-1-interacting chitinase-like protein (SI-CLP) is a novel protein belonging to the Glyco-18 domain-containing protein family which consists of both true enzymes and secreted chitinase-like proteins that lack enzymatic activity. SI-CLP is secreted by macrophages, and is bound by stabilin-1 which acts to mediate the intracellular sorting of SI-CLP, trafficking it from the trans-golgi network to the system of endosomes and lysosomes. After SI-CLP disassociates from stabilin-1, it is then moved to secretory lysosomes where it is able to be secreted into extracellular space. Currently three isoforms of SI-CLP have been identified; however, the exact function of SI-CLP is yet unknown. Its closest homologues have been implicated as soluble mediators in tumor progression and several disorders involving ECM remodeling and alterations to the vascular system.
