Background InformationMultimerin-1, also known as, EMILIN-4 or Elastin microfibril interface located protein 4 (Elastin microfibril interfacer 4) or Endothelial cell multimerin, and encoded by the gene name(s), MMRN1 or ECM or EMILIN4 or GPIA or MMRN, is a massive, soluble protein found in platelets and in the endothelium of blood vessels. MMRN1 may function as a carrier protein for platelet factor V and may also have functions as an extracellular matrix or adhesive protein. Deficiency in MMRN1 due to proteolytic degradation within the platelet alpha granules is associated with an autosomal dominant bleeding disorder.
