      Background InformationNatriuretic peptides B (also known as Brain natriuretic factor, Brain natriuretic peptide, Gamma-brain natriuretic peptide, Iso-ANP) is encoded by the Nppb (also known as BNP or Bnf) gene in rat (Entrez Gene ID 25105). Mature brain natriuretic peptide is a 32 amino acid polypeptide secreted by the ventricles of the heart in response to excessive stretching of myocytes in the ventricles. At the time of release, a co-secreted 76 amino acid N-terminal fragment (NT-proBNP) is also released with BNP. BNP binds to and activates NPRA in a similar fashion as atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) but with 10-fold lower affinity. Cat. No. AB1549, Anti-Brain Natriuretic Peptide, corresponds to immunogen affinity purified rabbit polyclonal antibody against the full-length 32aa mature rat BNP sequence (UniProt P13205). This polyclonal antibody recognizes both the proBNP and the mature 32aa BNP C-terminal fragment, but not the NT-proBNP fragment. Cross-reactivity toward human and murine species is NOT expected.
