      DescriptionAnti-ALKBH3 Antibody
      Alternate Names
      • Alpha-ketoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase alkB homolog 3
      • Alkylated DNA repair protein alkB homolog 3
      • DEPC-1
      • Prostate cancer antigen 1
Background InformationABH3 is a member of the Fe(II)/2OG-dependent dioxygenase superfamily, which couples substrate oxidation by converting 2-oxoglutarate (2OG) into succinate and CO2. In humans, ABH3 plays a critical role in alkylated DNA/RNA damage repair and in cancer therapy. While ABH3 may repair alkylated RNA, it demonstrates greater preference for the repair of single- over double-stranded alkylated DNA through oxidative demethylation of 1-methyladenine and 3-methylcytosine.

      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThe Escherichia coli AlkB protein protects against the cytotoxicity of methylating agents by repair of the specific DNA lesions generated in single-stranded DNA. ALKBH2 (MIM 610602) and ALKBH3 are E. coli AlkB homologs that catalyze the removal of 1-methyladenine and 3-methylcytosine.
