      Background InformationGolgi resident protein GCP60 or alternatively named ACBD3, (Acyl-CoA-binding domain-containing protein 3), or Golgi complex-associated protein 1 (GOCAP1), Golgi phosphoprotein 1 (GOLPH1), PBR-and PKA-associated protein 7 (PAP7), Peripheral benzodiazepine receptor-associated protein PAP7 is encoded by the human gene named ACBD3, GCP60, GOCAP1, or GOLPH1 and is a major component of Golgi structure and assists in the maintenance of the Golgi by interacting with another Golgi protein giantin. ACBD3 also helps regulate the protein transport between the Golgi and endoplasmic reticulum, and in cells such as the Leydig cells of the testis it assists in the secretion and synthesis of steroids and lipid biosynthesis. It is found largely in the Golgi apparatus and membranes but can be found in the mitochondria as well. ACBD3 is expressed in most tissues, with the highest levels being in the testis and ovary. ACBD3 also plays critical roles in assisting the operation of other signaling pathways as well such as the regulation of PPM1L in the trafficking of ceraminde in the Golgi, and ACBD3 appears to have biological roles in steroidogenesis, apoptosis, neurogenesis, and embryogenesis. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-ACBD3 rabbit monoclonal has been tested in western blot on K562, HeLa, 293T, and LNCaP cell lysates and flow cytometry on permeabilized K562 cells in culture.
