Dopamine D2 receptor agonist that potently and selectively inhibits neuronal NOS (nNOS; IC50 = 10 µM) by affecting the activation of NOS by calmodulin. Has only a weak inhibitory effect on inducible NOS (iNOS; IC50 > 100 µM). Modulates P-glycoprotein function. Inhibits Mg2+ ATPase activity (IC50 = 300 nM) and verapamil-induced P-glycoprotein ATPase activity (Ki = 200 nM). Also inhibits prolactin secretion.
