Background InformationAlso known as Native β2-glycoprotein 1, Apolipoprotein H is a carbohydrate-rich plasma protein which is partially comprised of sialylated and galactosylated bi- and triantennary oligosaccharides and is expressed by the liver and secreted in plasma. It is reported that Apolipoprotein H is an initiating antigen that is required for antibody recognition and is also known to bind to anionic phospholipids. It is also suggested to play a role in lipid metabolism.

      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryApolipoprotein H has been implicated in a variety of physiologic pathways including lipoprotein metabolism, coagulation, and the production of antiphospholipid autoantibodies. APOH may be a required cofactor for anionic phospholipid binding by the antiphospholipid autoantibodies found in sera of many patients with lupus and primary antiphospholipid syndrome, but it does not seem to be required for the reactivity of antiphospholipid autoantibodies associated with infections.
      Gene Symbol
      • APOH
      • B2G1
      Purification MethodProtein G Purified
      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: Binds to various kinds of negatively charged substances such as heparin, phospholipids, and dextran sulfate. May prevent activation of the intrinsic blood coagulation cascade by binding to phospholipids on the surface of damaged cells.

TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed by the liver and secreted in plasma.
Molecular Weight~45-50 kDa observed. A number of bands may be observed between a molecular weight of ~45-50 kDa due to heavy glycosolation in some tissues.
